Check ID is the fastest, most private, reliable way to scan and verify driver's licenses and IDs for events, venues, and guest management.

It reads the barcode on a driver’s license or state ID, checks the birth date and expiry date against your rules, and gives your staff a clear answer. What it keeps is a record that the check happened, never the details of who was checked.

WHAT A SCAN NEVER KEEPS
No name. No date of birth. No address. No ID number. No picture of the ID. Not in a scan record, on any plan. Guest lists are the one place names live, and only the names your staff add on purpose.

NO AD TRACKERS
No third-party analytics or advertising SDKs, no advertising identifier, and no ads. The app links two open-source libraries, both for reading passport chips. Our own product analytics tell us which features get used and what broke. They include coarse scan statistics, such as the result, the state and an age range, and never a name, birth date, address, ID number or photo.

A RECORD THAT THE CHECK HAPPENED
With Check ID for Teams, every scan is timestamped and signed by our server when it’s saved. Export a scan log (CSV) or a summary report (PDF), or share a report link. Reports never name your employees or the people who were checked.

CHECK ID FOR TEAMS
By default, staff check in with a PIN on shared iPhones and iPads at the door, so each scan records who ran it. Pair a door device from your own phone. Owners and managers review scans in the app or at app.checkidapp.com. One venue per plan; running several locations? Get in touch.

Repeat-entry alerts tell staff when the same ID is scanned again within your window, on any of your venue’s connected devices. It’s a prompt, not a block. They use a one-way code, re-keyed on our servers with a secret unique to your organization and deleted when the window closes. They start off by default for venues in New Hampshire, the EU and EEA, and countries we haven’t reviewed, and owners can change that per venue.

Guest lists and name search work from a copy on each device, so the door keeps going when the Wi-Fi doesn’t. Scans queue on the device and upload when the signal comes back.

WHAT IT READS
- The barcode on US and Canadian driver’s licenses and ID cards (the AAMVA PDF417 standard)
- The REAL ID indicator, when the barcode encodes one
- Many ePassports and chip ID cards, by reading the chip over NFC and checking its data against the issuing country’s certificates on our list (iPhone)
- Driver’s licenses and state IDs in Apple Wallet, through Apple’s own ID Verifier sheet (iPhone)

HONEST ABOUT WHAT IT ISN’T
Check ID is a tool that helps your staff check IDs. It isn’t legal advice, insurance, or a guarantee of compliance. It reads what a document encodes and checks it against your rules, but it can’t tell whether a card is genuine: a well-made fake can carry a valid barcode. Your staff make the final call.

Verify ePassports and national ID cards using NFC chip reading. Check ID reads the embedded chip to cryptographically authenticate documents, extract the holder's photo for visual comparison, and verify the document hasn't been tampered with. Supports passports from 112 countries and EU/EEA national ID cards.

Passback Detection
Prevent ID sharing with automatic passback detection. Check ID alerts you when the same ID is scanned multiple times within a configurable time window. Your privacy is protected—only a cryptographic hash is stored, never personal data.

Suspicious Barcode Detection
New AAMVA compliance checks analyze barcodes for potential issues like invalid issuer codes or mismatched formats. When something looks suspicious, you're alerted so you can decide whether to admit or investigate further.

7-Day Scan History
Track your recent scans with a privacy-first scan history that syncs across all your devices via iCloud. View past verifications, see age check results, and keep records of your scanning activity.

Check ID's redesigned scanning user interface is more intuitive with automatic barcode focus feedback. 1.6 02/05/2015 Version 1.5.2 addresses a bug where Date of Birth couldn't be parsed for some state drivers' licenses. 1.5.2 01/08/2015 Version 1.5.1 addresses a crash issue with states that combine first & last name into a single field (e.g. Connecticut & New Hampshire).

Check ID 1.5 adds a Guest List feature. Guest Lists can be created ahead of time from the Options screen, or you can assign a guest to a list after scanning their ID.
